Mission: Prologue: Taking On Crew
Location: USS Resolute
Timeline: MD002 1500 hours

After materializing in one of the transporter rooms aboard the Resolute Lieutenant Lorek stepped off the pad with two large duffel bags, one slung over each shoulder to balance the load, before approaching the Operator “Good afternoon Ensign. I am Lieutenant Lorek the new chief of security and tactical reporting for duty.” he stated as he handed over his orders.

Accepting his orders she looked everything over before looking up with a smile “Everything seems to be in order Lieutenant and welcome to the Resolute.” the Ensign commented with a welcoming tone to her voice “Give me a minute and I’ll get you all squared away Sir.” as her hands flew over the console “There all set Lieutenant you are now officially a member of the crew.” as she grabbed an item handing it to Lorek “This is your duty PaDD complete with your quarter’s assignment, map of the ship, and your temporary security clearance so you can access your quarters. I believe your personal crate has already been beamed to your room, sir.”

“Thank you so much for all of your help….please have a pleasant day.” Lorek replied before grabbing his duffels and exiting the transporter room with PaDD in hand following the map to a nearby lift. Entering “Deck 3.” Lorek requested before the doors swooshed shut and the lift was on it’s way.

After the Lieutenant exited the transporter room the Ensign grinned as she thought “Now that’s a first…..a polite Vulcan….and not bad looking either” as she went back to her duties.

Exiting the lift on Deck 3 Lorek followed the map. Minutes later he arrived at quarters number 3-24. Setting down his two duffels he keyed in his temporary security code before the doors swooshed open. Picking up both bags Lorek entered as he heard the doors close behind him. Setting down his duffels once again he turned left and went to the replicator “Computer one bottle of water…thirty six degree temperature” came the request. Moments later he grabbed the bottle, opened it, and drank about half of it’s contents at once before setting it on the nearby table.

Picking up both bags he headed to the bedroom directly behind the living area. Upon entering he saw a large bed, two nightstands (one being on each side of the bed), a good sized dresser, and a nice sized closet. Opening both bags Lorek started putting his things away in their appropriate places. Grabbing his personal items he made his way into the head.

Upon entering Lorek noticed a large sonic shower, wash basin, and a clothes refresher along with the other amenities one would expect.

Returning to the living area he finished his water before opening the crate. Taking out a few security books he placed them on the shelves over his desk area along with a few other books on various subjects collected over the years. Next were three holophotos, one of his parents and sister, one of T’Sher his mentor and friend while the last was of himself and his grandfather Sorek while fishing together as a youth; these were placed on the shelf as well. Also were a few keepsakes he had bought at various locations around the galaxy which he placed on the two side tables by the chairs. Lastly he reached in and picked up his beloved custom made Bat’leth so graciously given him by T’Sher at the conclusion of his training as sort of a graduation gift. This item needed to be displayed in a place of prominence. Looking around the room Lorek placed it over the couch so anyone entering his quarters would notice it and it was easy to grab if ever needed.

Now that his quarters were pretty much settled he had the empty crate beamed back to the cargo bay; hopefully it would be many years before he would require it again.

Wanting to meet with his C.O. sooner than later he tapped his comm badge “Captain Venn, this Lieutenant Lorek your new Chief Security/Tactical Officer, could we meet at your earliest convenience” he inquired.

Saelira’s reply came after only a brief pause, her voice calm and warm over the comm.

“Welcome aboard, Lieutenant. I am glad you made it over safely. Settle in, take a little time to breathe, and meet me in the observation lounge at 1900 hours. We can speak properly then.”

There was a faint softness to the final words, professional but not distant.

“Thank you Captain and I will see you at 1900 hours.” Lorek replied. Thinking for a moment analyzing their brief conversation; she seemed pleasant and did not hesitate to fulfill his request.

Realizing he had not eaten anything since early morning he went to the replicator “Computer one bowl of beef stew, temperature at ninety five degrees, two dinner rolls on the side, one soup spoon, and a water.”

Moments later he grabbed his meal and sat on the couch placing the food on the table in front of him. As he pulled up his sleeves to keep from getting them soiled with food, he noticed the mermaid tattoo on his right forearm; a remembrance of his grandfather. As he enjoyed his meal his mind drifted back to the days as a young boy confused and struggling with his heritage. With his father away the majority of the time, his grandfather Sorek happily filled the gap of a male role model. The time they had spent together had meant everything to this young boy. Not only did he learn all about fishing, more importantly there was a male to listen and counsel him during this difficult time in his young life. While eating his meal Lorek remembered how patient and understanding his grandfather had really been with him. Years later when Sorek passed away Lorek felt a loss he had never experienced before in his life and one he hoped he would not experience for a long time to come.

Thinking back if it had not been for T’Sher, his mentor and friend, he was not sure if he would have come to terms with his grandfather’s death so well. T’Sher had explained to him that death was not the end but merely one door closing so another could open which made Lorek feel so much better.

After his meal was finished Lorek cleaned up; even though he lived alone in his quarters he still wanted his residence neat and tidy.

Noticing the time Lorek grabbed his duty PaDD, mostly so he would not get lost, then secured his quarters to go meet with the Captain.

Entering the lift “Deck 1.” he requested. Now things were about to get real.
