Avalon Station
Avalon-class Ark Installation / Badlands Stability Anchor
Avalon Station is a class-of-one ark installation hidden deep within the Badlands. Built as a last-resort contingency in the event of Dominion victory over the Alpha and Beta Quadrants, Avalon was never intended to be a conventional starbase. It was designed to preserve lives, cultures, knowledge, technology, government continuity, and the possibility of future resistance should the major powers of the quadrant fall.
Concealed within one of the most hazardous and sensor-hostile regions of known space, Avalon uses the natural chaos of the Badlands as part of its defence. Its most important system is a vast stability-field lattice, capable of creating and maintaining a controlled pocket of safe space around the station. This protective zone allows ships to approach, dock, repair, shelter, and regroup inside a region the Dominion would otherwise consider too dangerous to patrol.
Externally, Avalon appears predominantly Starfleet in design, with clean structural lines, layered hull geometry, and a broad command-and-habitation superstructure. Beneath that Starfleet-led exterior, however, the station is a coalition-built survival platform incorporating major engineering contributions from numerous Alpha and Beta Quadrant powers. Cardassian structural logic, Romulan cloaking technology, Klingon damage-control philosophy, Vulcan archival systems, Bajoran civic planning, Andorian resilience, Tellarite industrial engineering, and Federation humanitarian infrastructure all form part of its hidden anatomy.
The station is built around five major structural zones: the upper command and habitat superstructure, the central operations spine, the docking and stabilisation ring, four reinforced structural pylons, and the lower engineering and power module. The docking ring provides widely spaced starship berths, emergency mooring points, quarantine slips, internal hangar complexes, and the primary field projectors that help maintain Avalon’s protective bubble.
Avalon is also equipped with a Romulan-derived station-scale cloaking system powered by an artificial singularity core. This system is not merely a cloak enlarged for station use, but an integrated concealment architecture combining Romulan masking technology, low-emission protocols, Badlands interference, and field-shrouding systems. Under normal conditions, Avalon operates in a concealed haven state, remaining functional while appearing to outside sensors as nothing more than another violent pocket of Badlands turbulence.
Although heavily defended, Avalon was not built as a battle station. Its first defence is secrecy, its second is the Badlands itself, and its third is a layered network of shields, armour, redundancy, and concealed defensive systems. Its weapons are intended as a last resort. The station’s true purpose is preservation.
Within its protected hull are cultural archives, biological preservation vaults, medical facilities, schools, habitat modules, refugee intake centres, fabrication systems, strategic continuity chambers, and sealed command spaces intended to support future recovery efforts. Avalon was built to keep enough of the quadrant alive for civilisation to rise again.
In simple terms, Avalon Station is not a refuge because it is safe. It is safe because every metre of it was designed to survive the end of everything around it.
